Student Position: Digital Communications Assistant for the Open African Innovation Research (AIR) network at the University of Ottawa, Ottawa Ontario, Canada

Hours per Week:  Flexible hours, from 5-10 hours per week. 
Duration: 6 months (with a possibility of extension). 

Salary: Hourly rate commensurate with relevant experience.

Position Overview 

The Open African Innovation Research (Open AIR) network is seeking a Digital Communications Assistant to support our online engagement efforts. This is a great opportunity for a student interested in digital communication, research networks, and content creation. The position provides a unique opportunity for professional development and engagement with a globally connected research partnership. 

The Assistant will help manage Open AIR’s website, social media platforms, and digital content, while working alongside a global team of researchers. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Assist with updating and maintaining the Open AIR website (content creation, editing, and formatting). Archives web-based content and other communication materials. 
  • Support social media management, including drafting posts and engaging with audiences. 
  • Help create multimedia content (graphics, videos, and promotional materials). 
  • Assist in monitoring website and social media analytics to track engagement. 
  • Provide support for digital communication strategies and outreach initiatives. 
  • Assists with designing and implementing performance indicators to assess the effectiveness and traffic of Open AIR’s website and social media platforms. 

        Preferred Skills & Qualifications: 

        • Enrolled in a university program (preferably in communications, media, international development, or a related field). 
        • Strong writing and editing skills. 
        • Experience with social media platforms, website management, or digital content creation. 
        • Familiarity with graphic design tools (Canva, Adobe, etc.) is a plus. 
        • Knowledge of African research or indigenous languages is an asset.
