Larry is a post-doctoral research fellow at the SARChI Chair in Transformative Innovation, 4IR, & Sustainable Development at the University of Johannesburg, where he is a Queen Elizabeth Scholars – Advanced Scholars Fellow with Open AIR. He obtained his PhD from the University of Johannesburg in 2020, where his thesis, entitled “Mobile Phone Adoption and Usage: An Analysis of Social, Cultural and Economic Factors in Gauteng’s Informal Settlements”, looked at the innovative ways resource-constrained people adopt and use their mobile phones through the appropriation of technology. His current research focuses on digitisation, informality, and inclusivity of small businesses in South Africa. His research interests are mobile phone technology and innovation, digitisation, and Critical Theory of Technology.
