Dr. Sara Serradas O’Holleran, raised in Mozambique, brings a research foundation in life sciences, including microbiology in Portugal and at the Institut Pasteur, followed by a PhD in neuroscience from the University of Cambridge. This expertise has fueled her dedication to innovation that tackles the Sustainable Development Goals in low-income nations. Through leadership in social enterprises, she has expanded educational access, mitigated water inequities, and influenced strategies for confronting global issues. She played a pivotal role in launching Cambridge Global Challenges, the University of Cambridge’s interdisciplinary research center promoting Southern-led initiatives to advance the SDGs.
Dr. O’Holleran focuses her research on innovative alternatives to intellectual property that safeguard origins while amplifying the domestic benefits of African climate innovations shared and commercialized globally. She is co-developing the Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship component of the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at the University of Cambridge, partnering with African collaborators and industry specialists.
