    Professor Izael Pereira Da Silva is a renewable energy expert with more than two decades of experience in research and academic leadership. He serves as Professor and Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research and Innovation at Strathmore University, where he also leads the UNESCO/UNITWIN Chair on Climate Change Resilience and Sustainability.

    He earned a PhD and MSc in Electrical Engineering, specializing in Power Systems, from the University of Sao Paulo, along with a BSc in Electrical Engineering, focused on Power Systems and Telecommunications, from the Federal University of Parana.

    As a registered engineer, he belongs to various engineering organizations in Africa and internationally, including the Council of Engineers in Energy Transition (CEET). He is an Accredited Energy Auditor certified by Kenya’s Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) and a Certified Energy Manager with the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) in Atlanta, Georgia. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with government ministries, development partners such as GIZ, Sida, and the World Bank, and industry players in Africa and globally to bridge academia and practical applications.

    His research spans renewable energy, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), energy efficiency, climate change mitigation and adaptation, demand-side management, energy conversion and conservation, renewable technologies, and related policies. He has authored and published widely in these fields.

    In his personal life, Dr. Da Silva is a dedicated long-distance runner and fitness advocate, having competed in the Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon from 2011 to 2017 and the Ndakaini Half Marathon in 2016. An avid hiker, he has summited Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Kenya.
