Dr. Melaku Geboye Desta serves as Coordinator of the African Trade Policy Centre (ATPC) within the Regional Integration and Trade Division (RITD) at the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) in Addis Ababa.
Previously, he held roles as Principal Regional Advisor at the ECA, Senior Technical Advisor to the Chief Executive Officer of the APRM Secretariat, Professor of International Economic Law at Leicester De Montfort School of Law in the UK, and lecturer, senior lecturer, and reader in international economic law at the University of Dundee in Scotland. An Ethiopian native and trained lawyer, Dr. Desta earned a PhD in international economic law. He has authored numerous publications on African and international economic law and policy, with a focus on agriculture and natural resources. Dr. Desta has advised various international organizations and national governments and acted as an arbitrator in global disputes.
