Francis Nathan Okurut

Prof. Francis Nathan Okurut is an Associate Professor of Economics at the University of Botswana. He received his PhD in Economics from the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa, where he explored the determinants of demand and supply of credit for informal sector businesses in Uganda. Okurut also has his Masters in Economic Policy and Planning, and a BA in Economics from Makerere University, Uganda.

Prior to obtaining his PhD, Okurut was a lecturer at Makerere University. He was also the Assistant General Manager for Uganda Women’s Finance Trust for seven years, helping to enhance women’s empowerment through the financing of microenterprises.

Okurut has over 20 years of teaching experience and multiple significant publications on various economic topics regarding Africa, especially Botswana and Uganda. His research interests include monetary economics, macroeconomics, econometrics, and SMMEs.
