NEW and EMERGING RESEARCHERS GROUP (NERG)

The Open AIR network is providing new and emerging researchers with international experiences, industry linkages, and promising careers. Our New & Emerging Researchers Group (NERG) receive training and mentoring to help develop the talent of these Fellows, creating immediate jobs and long-term career opportunities by building lasting international and interdisciplinary relationships.

The group is composed of undergraduate and graduate students, including juris doctor (JD), Masters, and doctoral students, as well as other research associates. NERG Fellows are located across the project’s different hubs, and are engaged with Open AIR’s research at various levels (conducting literature reviews; creating surveys and other tools; collecting, managing and analyzing data; co-writing peer reviewed articles and media materials; co-presenting findings; and managing the activities of a unit within a broader organizational structure). Reflecting the broader values and multidisciplinary composition of Open AIR, the members of the NERG come from several different areas of study, including: law, economics, development, and innovation studies.

NERGs OMBUDSMEN

NERG Fellows receive training and mentoring to help develop their talent, creating immediate jobs and long-term career opportunities by building lasting international and interdisciplinary relationships. Through their involvement in this international partnership, our Fellows acquire invaluable contacts and unique perspectives that would otherwise be unattainable. These experiences and connections will not only shape student’s professional careers, but also touch their personal lives, preparing them as leaders in both academic and non-academic fields.

NERG members are encouraged and supported to conduct their own original research, under the direction and mentorship of our Steering Commitee members and other collaborators, and where warranted will receive authorial or co-authorial credit to advance their careers. Additionally, Fellows are encouraged to study abroad either at one of our other hubs or with our researchers outside of hubs. These activities hep build academic skills like research methods, theory building, and scholarly publishing. They also build highly transferable professional skills, such as leadership and teamwork, project management, and community engagement.
