Tiered or Differentiated Approach to Traditional Knowledge and Traditional Cultural Expressions

Chidi Oguamanam authored a report in August 2018 that was published by the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI) in Canada. This was CIGI Paper No 185, “Tiered or Differentiated Approach to Traditional Knowledge and Traditional Cultural Expressions: The Evolution of a Concept”. This report gives an overview and update of the World Intellectual Property Organization’s expert committee, known as the Intergovernmental Committee on Intellectual Property and Genetic Resources, Traditional Knowledge and Folklore (IGC), which has been ongoing for nearly two decades. As a delegate to these negotiations, Oguamanam has a unique insider’s view on the topic, along with an academic’s ability to bring a long-term perspective and evidence-based ideas.
