Dr. Volviane Saphir Mfogo

    Dr. Volviane Saphir Mfogo is a Queen Elizabeth Scholars – Advanced Scholars Fellow with Open AIR, specializing in AI and cybersecurity. She holds a PhD in AI from the University of Dschang and has research experience in the UK, Ghana, and Cameroon. 

    Her QES project, Building a Community of Practice for Responsible AI and Grassroots Innovation, focuses on strengthening grassroots AI ecosystems in West Africa. Through this work, she is mapping grassroots AI networks, identifying success factors and challenges, and co-developing a governance and sustainability framework for a Community of Practice hosted at RAI-Multilab-UYII. While in Canada, she is conducting a comparative study with Canadian innovation communities and co-designing a practical toolkit to support responsible AI practices, to be shared via Open AIR, IndabaX, and RAI-Multilab-UYII. 

    Dr. Mfogo is also active in capacity building, serving as lead organizer of Deep Learning IndabaX Cameroon and a member of the Pan-African Steering Committee of Deep Learning Indaba.
