Freedom-Kai Phillips received a Bachelor’s degree Magna Cum Laude from Eastern Michigan University, holds a M.A. from Seton Hall University, and obtained an LLB from Dalhousie University.  He is currently undertaking a Master’s in Law and Technology at the University of Ottawa, focusing on IP Law. Freedom-Kai is also a legal consultant and Legal Research Fellow with the Biodiversity and Biosafety Law Research Programme for the Centre for International Sustainable Development Law (CISDL) where he works in support of the Ramsar Convention Secretariat. He has previously worked for the UN and was recently the COO of Bionomos Ltd in Montreal.  He has a number of publications primarily analyzing, assessing, and implementing access and benefit sharing regimes, bioprospecting and biotech strategic planning, intellectual property rights in bio-based industries, and developing strategies to integrate biodiversity and sustainability goals into organizational risk frameworks.
