Philda is an Open AIR Queen Elizabeth Scholar – Advanced Scholars Fellow and a lawyer with over 10 years’ experience in the field of intellectual property and trade policy. She has worked and consulted extensively on IP issues, regional integration and the multilateral trading system. Philda holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree (LLB) from Makerere University, a Master of Laws Degree (LLM) in International Trade and Investment Law from the University of Pretoria, and a Master of Laws Degree (LLM) in Intellectual Property form the University of Turin. In addition, she has a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre in Kampala and a Diploma in Project Management from the Kenya Institute of Management (KIM). She is an advocate of the High court of Uganda and member of the Uganda Law Society and East African Law Society. Prior to joining Open AIR, Philda was an Advisor to the Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry of the Government of Kenya on Trade Policy, and a Senior Commercial Officer at the Ministry of Trade in Uganda. She has also spent a significant part of her career teaching IP at Makerere University, Uganda Christian University, Kampala International University and Islamic University in Uganda.
